Oil service volume for Honda Accord

The amount and viscosity of engine oil depend on the generation of Honda Accord, the volume, and type of the engine, as well as the degree of its wear.

Honda Accord is a “global” mid-size “business model” (with a small “claim to premium”), which occupies the “advanced niche” in the list of the Japanese company “Honda Motor”. Interestingly, the front-wheel-drive car, in terms of the set of characteristics, “addresses” both “young drivers” and “mature people”.

Honda Accord Generations

Honda Accord 2018 (2018, 2019, 2020, 2021), 10rd generation

The tenth-generation Honda Accord debuted as a sedan only and without a V6 engine for the first time since 1994. A 1.5-liter four-cylinder and a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine – both turbocharged – along with the 2.0-liter hybrid, which achieves 48 mpg combined, are the engine options.

Honda Accord 2013 (2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017), 9nd generation

The ninth-generation Accord was closer to a refresh than a new generation. A new Sport model debuted with a touch more power than the outgoing four-cylinder engine. The second generation of the Honda Accord Hybrid was re-introduced with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine paired a with an electric motor and a continuously variable transmission. A plug-in hybrid version of the Accord was briefly offered in 2014 and 2015.

Honda Accord 2008 (2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012), 8st generation

The eighth-generation Accord was so large, that the EPA reclassified it as a large car. Both the sedan and coupe were available. A 268-horsepower V6 paired to a six-speed manual transmission was available on the coupe.

Honda Accord 2003 (2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007), 7st generation

The seventh-generation Accord received a power boost. A new 2.4-liter four-cylinder debuted with 160 horsepower the while V6 was re-tuned to deliver 240 horsepower. In the coupe, the V6 was paired with a six-speed manual transmission. The seventh-generation also saw the introduction of the Accord Hybrid. It was sold between 2005 and 2007. Honda paired the larger V6 gasoline engine with an electric motor for a combined 253 horsepower (at the time the gas V6 made 244 horsepower). The hybrid can achieve 30 mpg in city driving and 37 mpg on the highway.

The right choice of engine oil for the Honda Accord

The Honda Accord is one of the most reliable cars on the market! We recommend changing the engine oil every 5,000 miles in your Honda Accord. You take care of your car, right?

How do you choose your oil? That will come down to a number of factors.

There are two things to consider when choosing the best oil for your Honda Accord: mileage and climate. There are many other things to consider: driving style, driving duration, climate, and other factors.

High mileage Honda Accord engine oil

How many miles your car has been driven is also an important factor. “High mileage” is considered 75,000 miles or more, which is not a lot for a Honda owner! High mileage vehicle additives are designed to restore the shape and elasticity of engine seals, giving new life to those that have failed to harden. High mileage Honda Accord oils tend to have a higher viscosity range to account for the higher tolerances that may exist in older vehicles that are subject to more wear and tear.

How do I change the oil in a Honda Accord?

Changing the oil in a Honda Accord is done just like any other car. Changing the oil takes about 20-30 minutes. You will need a 17 mm head, a funnel, an oil filter, and 4.4 liters of new oil, as well as a drain pan for the used oil.

What viscosity is right for me for the Honda Accord?

It’s very simple: 0w-20, 5w-20, API SN, or ILSAC GF-5 oil is appropriate for Honda Accord cars. No other approvals are required for Honda Accord vehicles.

Why should I use synthetic oil for Honda Accord?

  • Synthetic oil allows your vehicle to reduce fuel consumption. Synthetic oil is made with a lower viscosity than conventional oils, the oil flows more freely and allows the engine to not run as hard.
  • Synthetic oil lasts longer than regular oil, so you can shorten your oil change interval.
  • Synthetic oil extends the life of your engine.
