Approvals GM Dexos Motor Oil

GM Dexos 1

Designed with gasoline engines in mind GM Dexos 1 replaces the GM-LL-A-025, GM6094M and GM4718M specifications. This specification is usually recommended for GM vehicles built for the North American and Asian markets. Compared to ILSAC GF-5 it has stricter requirements regarding piston deposit formation, aeration, oxidation stability, wear, low-temperature pumpability and volatility.

GM Dexos 2

The GM Dexos 2 specification is meant to be the replacement for both GM-LL-A-025 (gasoline) and GM-LL-B-025 (diesel) specifications for the European market. Oils meeting GM Dexos 2 are required for vehicles manufactured from MY2011 onward but they are also backward compatible with older models. This specification is built on the ACEA C3 standard but also contains elements from the ILSAC GF-4 deposit formation test and low-temperature sludge build-up test.

GM-LL-A-025

Special GM approval for long-life engine oil for gasoline engines. Viscosity is SAE 0W-30. Product meets ACEA A3/B3. Drain interval can be as long as 30 000 kms. Recommended for vehicles built before MY2011.

GM-LL-B-025

Special GM approval for long-life engine oil for diesel engines. Viscosity is SAE 5W-40. Product meets ACEA A3/B3/B4. Drain interval can be as long as 50 000 kms. Recommended for vehicles built before MY2011.

Cadillac CTS Generations

Cadillac CTS 2019 (2019), 17 generation

The CTS is Cadillac’s mid-size luxury sedan and is offered with rear- or all-wheel drive. Three engines are offered: a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder, a 3.6-liter V-6 and, on the V-Sport model, a twin-turbo 3.6-liter V-6. The CTS competes with luxury sedans like the BMW 5 Series, Lexus GS and Audi A6. Cadillac also sells a high-performance CTS-V sports sedan.

Cadillac CTS 2018 (2018), 16 generation

An automatic heated steering wheel is now standard and there are two additional USB ports located on the back of the center console. The myCadillac app for iOS devices now syncs with the Apple Watch.

Cadillac CTS 2017 (2017), 15 generation

The CTS’ front grille and rear styling has been updated, and a rear camera mirror is now available. A new Carbon Black Sport Package includes a black-chrome grille, dark-finish wheels, a rear spoiler, carbon-fiber cabin trim and performance or available Recaro-brand front seats.

Cadillac CTS 2016 (2016), 14 generation

A new available 3.6-liter V-6 engine with direct injection, stop-start technology and cylinder deactivation is rated at 335 horsepower. The turbocharged four-cylinder also has stop-start technology to save fuel, and both the four-cylinder and V-6 team with an eight-speed automatic transmission. Apple CarPlay technology for integrating iPhone capabilities has been added to the standard Cadillac User Experience multimedia system. Android Auto capability is due later in the model year. A surround-view camera system is now available.

Cadillac CTS 2015 (2015), 13 generation

The OnStar communication system onboard the 2015 Cadillac CTS now comes with 4G LTE internet connectivity with a built-in Wi-Fi hot spot, including a three-month/3-gigabyte data trial. It also comes with the Cadillac User Experience system, which now allows you to listen and respond to text messages when your phone is connected with Bluetooth. The 2015 Cadillac CTS now gets an available wireless phone charger called the Cadillac DockSpot, as well. Outside of technology features, the 2015 CTS has an updated Cadillac crest on the grille. Lane departure prevention and lane change alert safety features are now available on the 2015 Cadillac CTS, too.

Cadillac CTS 2014 (2014), 12 generation

The redesigned 2014 Cadillac CTS sedan provides an enticing blend of sport and comfort; its striking styling and athletic moves are exciting, and its tailored, luxurious interior coddles you. Fresh looks are joined by some new powertrains, the Cadillac User Experience multimedia system and additional safety features. Only the regular sedan version is redesigned; the coupe and wagon carry over on the previous platform, as does the high-performance CTS-V sedan.

Cadillac CTS 2013 (2013), 11 generation

The CTS comes standard with a 3.0-liter V-6 engine, but the optional 3.6-liter V-6 and our test car’s six-speed automatic transmission represent a special pairing among transmissions. The transmission shifts unobtrusively, and it’s always in the right gear for the road situation. The automatic is also incredibly responsive; press the gas pedal and it immediately shifts into a lower gear. The 3.6-liter V-6 engine has the power reserve to accelerate other cars on the highway, while the transmission’s responsiveness remains. The sedan gets off to a good start, and the mechanical growl of the six-cylinder engine sounds good in doing so. This six-cylinder engine has more power for 2012 at 318 horsepower, an increase of 14 hp, and is also 20 pounds lighter than its predecessor. The engine received a number of changes, including new cylinder heads with integrated exhaust manifolds, a composite intake manifold and lighter, stronger connecting rods.

Cadillac CTS 2012 (2012), 10 generation

The 2012 Cadillac CTS sedan offers buyers an attractive combination of design, luxury and performance. Of the changes, the CTS gets a new style of grille, but the changes are subtle, and the overall shape of the shield, which has become a familiar Cadillac design cue, remains.

Cadillac CTS 2011 (2011), 9 generation

The CTS-V is one of the most impressive vehicles on the market, and the new station wagon version makes it even more appealing to an admittedly small group of buyers. In the 2011 CTS-V coupe, higher engine power has softened the automatic transmission, but it hasn’t eliminated the problem. There is no excuse for such performance these days, although it is reaching epidemic proportions in the marketplace. Covered in faux suede, the shift lever has short throws and feels connected to the car. By today’s standards, the clutch pedal is quite heavy.

Cadillac CTS 2010 (2010), 8 generation

In 2010, the base engine is new: the 3.0-liter V-6 with 270 hp. It replaces the version of the 3.6-liter V-6 engine with conventional fuel injection, which produced 263 hp. Power in both modern engines is provided by direct injection. Both engines require regular gasoline, not premium gasoline, which is rare among luxury cars. Unlike the sedan, the station wagon is only available with an automatic transmission.

Cadillac CTS 2009 (2009), 7 generation

The CTS is not as shocking as its predecessor, partly because the rest of the Cadillac lineup now has similar lines. At any rate, it looks softer than before, with wider fenders, brighter headlights, and less of the austerity of the original. Between the fog light inserts, two-tone grille and bumper extensions under each headlight there is a lot to sort out. The base engine is Cadillac’s 3.6-liter V-6. It produces 263 horsepower and 253 pound-feet of torque. An optional direct-injection version provides higher cylinder compression and improved fuel delivery, resulting in 304 hp and 273 lb-ft of torque. Even more impressively, it maintains nearly the same fuel consumption and runs on regular unleaded gasoline.

Cadillac CTS 2008 (2008), 6 generation

Sporting creased lines and track-tuned handling, Cadillac’s original CTS led the revival of a brand many had perceived as stodgy. The second-generation model, new for 2008, doesn’t have quite as tall a ladder to climb, but it still needs to make inroads among import shoppers, including fans of the BMW 3 Series, Infiniti G35, Audi A4 and several other sport sedans.

Cadillac CTS 2007 (2007), 5 generation

Little has changed on Cadillac’s CTS sedan for 2007, though the optional navigation system’s NavTraffic overlay does gain some additional features.

Cadillac CTS 2006 (2006), 4 generation

GM debuted the CTS-V in 2004, it came with the 5.7-liter LS6 V-8 engine from the fifth-generation Corvette. But after the C6 was introduced last year with its new 6.0-liter engine, GM shared this new powertrain with the CTS-V and other cars in its lineup equipped with the 5.7-liter Vette engine. The CTS-V appeals mostly to those who would love to own a Corvette or the Cadillac XLR two-seater (based on the C6 platform and built on the Corvette assembly line in Bowling Green, Ky.), but must buy a sedan or SUV because of family considerations. The CTS-V has the power and feel of a ‘Vette, but with not only the back seat, but a roomy trunk as well – the same 12.8 cubic feet as on the V-6 CTS models.

Cadillac CTS 2005 (2005), 3 generation

The Cadillac CTS-V is the first model developed by the General Motors Performance Division, a proprietary center dedicated to creating enthusiast-oriented versions of production models. The CTS-V has impressive equipment, including a 5.7-liter V-8 engine with 400 horsepower, heavy-duty Brembo brakes and 18-inch Goodyear flat tires.

Cadillac CTS 2004 (2004), 2 generation

The Cadillac line now includes a hot, two-seat convertible, hotter SUVs, a sedan, and a CTS, which even with a six-cylinder engine was a powerful vehicle on the American highway. The torque range runs forever, from nearly 2,800 rpm to 6,000-plus. This is especially noticeable in fourth gear at high commuter train speeds, when it flies out of pure silk and past the laggards. The shifter is a manual six-speed. From the outside, this car has been set up so that it attracts attention. Its sharp edges burn, giving the impression of speed. Its front spoiler, which scratches the nose, looks like it’s ready to absorb wind and distance. And the short bump from the tailgate to the trunk is a humpy and aggressive stance.

Cadillac CTS 2003 (2003), 1 generation

CTS is a completely new game. The CTS stands out from the crowd with its sharply curved, angular body contours. To some, its aggressive styling seems attractive and in keeping with world standards. To others, it’s a horrible mess. No one seems neutral, but that’s the point. The interior looks solid and nicely designed, its modular look more in line with European styling than the typical Cadillac. The front seats are very roomy, but the back is a bit cramped. In my opinion, the five-speed transmission has improved the driving experience, although Cadillac expects to sell only about 5 percent of its CTS cars equipped with it. It’s a Getrag transmission with a smooth and precise short-throw shifter. Most CTSs will get the same brand of automatic transmission as the BMW. There is only one engine option, a 3.2-liter six-cylinder engine with 220 horsepower. Acceleration is fast, but is accompanied by some engine noise.
