Toyota Camry Generations
Toyota Camry 2018 (2018, 2019, 2020, 2021), 8st generation
The eight-generation Camry transitioned to the Toyota New Global Architecture and debuted with all new sheet metal. It’s powered by the same 2.5-liter engine, but with 301 horsepower. A V6 with 301 horsepower was optional for higher trims. All models used an eight-speed automatic transmission. The hybrid powertrain was also an option for LE, SE and XLE trims. It produced 208 horsepower and was paired to a continuously variable transmission. For the 2020 model year, Toyota debuted the TRD trim, which is paired with the V6 and sports performance-oriented brakes and suspension as well as exclusive exterior details like 19-inch wheels and a rear spoiler.
Toyota Camry 2012 (2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017), 7st generation
The seventh-generation Camry received an upgraded 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine that delivered 178 horsepower. This was the first generation that did not offer any manual transmission option. The same V6 upgrade was offered on the SE and XLE. Cruise control, USB ports and Bluetooth also debuted as well as keyless entry for the higher trims. A mid-cycle refresh left the Camry completely restyled for the 2012 model year. It was still equipped with the same engine, but a sportier-looking XSE trim was added to the lineup.
Toyota Camry 2007 (2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011), 6st generation
Lots of options came with the debut of the sixth-generation Camry, that once again grew in size. There were four trim levels: CE, SE, SE and XLE. Each was powered by a 158-horsepower 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine. A larger 3.5-liter V6 with 268 horsepower was available on all but the base CE. A hybrid powertrain also debuted. A fix- or six-speed transmission was also introduced. The Camry Solara was discontinued in 2009.
Toyota Camry 2002 (2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006), 5st generation
A longer and taller Camry with the same performance and fuel efficiency debuted for the fifth generation. The new base engine was 2.4-liter four-cylinder with 157 horsepower. The V6 carried over, but its option to be paired with a manual transmission was dropped. The second-generation Camry Solara underwent a major redesign for the 2004 model year.
The right choice of engine oil for the Toyota Camry
The Toyota Camry is one of the most reliable cars on the market! We recommend changing the engine oil every 5,000 miles in your Toyota Camry. You take care of your car, right?
How do you choose your oil? That will come down to a number of factors.
There are two things to consider when choosing the best oil for your Toyota Camry: mileage and climate. There are many other things to consider: driving style, driving duration, climate, and other factors.
High mileage Toyota Camry engine oil
How many miles your car has been driven is also an important factor. “High mileage” is considered 75,000 miles or more, which is not a lot for a Honda owner! High mileage vehicle additives are designed to restore the shape and elasticity of engine seals, giving new life to those that have failed to harden. High mileage Toyota Camry oils tend to have a higher viscosity range to account for the higher tolerances that may exist in older vehicles that are subject to more wear and tear.
How do I change the oil in a Toyota Camry?
Changing the oil in a Toyota Camry is done just like any other car. Changing the oil takes about 20-30 minutes. You will need a 17 mm head, a funnel, an oil filter, and new engine oil, as well as a drain pan for the used oil.
What viscosity is right for me for the Toyota Camry?
It’s very simple: 0w-20, 5w-20, API SN, or ILSAC GF-5 oil is appropriate for Toyota Camry cars. No other approvals are required for Toyota Camry vehicles.
Why should I use synthetic oil for Toyota Camry?
- Synthetic oil allows your vehicle to reduce fuel consumption. Synthetic oil is made with a lower viscosity than conventional oils, the oil flows more freely and allows the engine to not run as hard.
- Synthetic oil lasts longer than regular oil, so you can shorten your oil change interval.
- Synthetic oil extends the life of your engine.
