Chrysler Crossfire Generations
Chrysler Crossfire 2008 (2008), 5nd generation
The Crossfire enters 2008 with a tire pressure monitoring system as standard equipment. Competitors include the BMW Z4, Mercedes CLK-Class and Audi TT. The Crossfire’s bodysides are relatively tall, but glass surfaces are minimal. The Crossfire is available as both a coupe and a convertible. Either a six-speed manual or five-speed automatic gearbox teams with a 215-horsepower, 3.2-liter V-6.
Chrysler Crossfire 2007 (2007), 4st generation
Little is changed for 2007, beyond new airbags, a monochromatic appearance package and a new bright-silver paint scheme. The Crossfire is available as both a coupe and a convertible. Either a six-speed manual or five-speed automatic gearbox teams with a 215-horsepower, 3.2-liter V-6. The supercharged SRT6 Crossfire has been discontinued.
Chrysler Crossfire 2006 (2006), 3st generation
The Crossfire style is a combination of facets and subtle curves. The center section of the body runs the entire length of the coupe and is the dominant design element. The trademark Chrysler fender badge at the front spans the full width of the chrome grille. The headlights have round elements that cut into the front fascia. Six grooves run the entire length of the long hood. Side air louvers accentuate the sides of the body. The rear wheels are 19 inches in diameter and the front wheels are 18 inches.
Chrysler Crossfire 2005 (2005), 2st generation
The standard Crossfire has a 215-horsepower, 3.2-liter engine with a single overhead camshaft and three valves per cylinder. The SRT6, however, has an impressive 330 horsepower thanks to a spiral supercharger and water-to-air intercooler. Chrysler claims the SRT6 accelerates to 60 mph in about five seconds. The SRT6 flexes its muscles over a wide power range. The only transmission available is a five-speed AutoStick automatic transmission. The lack of a manual transmission may be a drawback for performance advocates, but the AutoStick can be shifted manually when you choose. The designers have done a good job of bringing the tail end of the coupe into the shape of a roadster. At the rear, it looks fast, wide, and sleek because of the large rear spoiler. At the front, “speed” grooves fold up on the hood.
Chrysler Crossfire 2004 (2004), 1st generation
Five years after the DaimlerChrysler merger, dubbed the “merger of equals,” former Mercedes Benz officials are finally introducing the new Chrysler. And the results are unlike anything Chrysler has ever produced. Among the most anticipated is the Chrysler Crossfire, an Art Deco limited edition coupe with stunning carvings. Inside, the Crossfire is a testament to true luxury, as its simple dashboard is easy to use and doesn’t suffer from the glare of the video screen, which includes a million different features. While many new cars suffer from this apparent convenience, the Crossfire does not. Chrysler offers simple rotary knobs for climate control and a two-button radio with 10 amazing radio station presets. A CD player is built into the audio system. While the audio system has decent sound, all the speakers are located at the front of the cabin. Without the surround sound that most people are used to now, the audio system seems unbalanced, although it really isn’t.
