Dodge Caliber Generations

Dodge Caliber 2012 (2012), 6rd generation

A simplified model lineup features SE, SXT and SXT Plus trim levels, and an electronic stability system is now standard. The Caliber’s available continuously variable automatic transmission has been recalibrated to deliver better launch acceleration, smoother deceleration, improved pedal response and lower engine noise, Dodge says.

Dodge Caliber 2011 (2011), 5rd generation

The 2011 Dodge Caliber is comfortable and practical, but it has one major drawback. The front struts are quite large and go back at a slight angle. Many cars have this style, and as a consequence, many cars are hard to see when turning. The posts block your view of pedestrians, cars – anything – and that’s a big problem. The rear view of the caliber, on the other hand, is the worst. The rear window is small, and the rear seats have fixed molded headrests that don’t go into the backrests, so it’s like looking down the tube to see the rear. Folding the rear seats improves the view a bit. If the car’s visibility is a huge drawback, the interior is now one of the Caliber’s strengths. Dodge completely redesigned the interior in 2011, and the work paid off.

Dodge Caliber 2010 (2010), 4rd generation

For 2010, the Caliber dropped its high-performance SRT4 model, as well as the 1.8-liter four-cylinder variant. A new naming convention is also in use this year: the bars have been changed to (in ascending order) Express, Heat, Mainstreet, Uptown, and Rush. The biggest news is that the Caliber got a completely redesigned interior for 2010, and the job was well done. Chrysler has been in trouble lately: it had to merge with Fiat to stay alive.

Dodge Caliber 2009 (2009), 3rd generation

The SRT4 has the makings of an interesting race car, but most people who buy a high-performance hatchback don’t have access to a racetrack. Instead, they have to make do with public roads, just like everyone else. The SRT4 comes with a turbocharged four-cylinder engine with a six-speed manual transmission, but even on hard commutes, it’s easier to drive than you think. One of the main reasons is that the clutch pedal isn’t too tight. The clutch also engages smoothly, so you don’t have to worry about your passengers tilting their heads. Overall, the setup is easy to get used to, and the location of the gearshift lever itself – right below the air conditioning controls on the dashboard – makes it easy to reach with your right hand.

Dodge Caliber 2008 (2008), 2rd generation

High-performance hatchbacks are an interesting automotive breed. They try to curb the excitement of a sports car in a decidedly unsportsmanlike package, a hatchback that is better known for its ability to hold tons of stuff. The SRT4’s aggressive looks are matched by the cabin, which loses points due to the lack of uniform texture on the dashboard plastics and unremarkable trim. The all-black interior gives the SRT4 a purposefulness that matches the car’s performance aspirations. One of the SRT’s specific cues is the turbo gauge on the left side of the steering wheel, which looks pretty cool, but it’s not optimally positioned for a quick glance during heavy driving. The center tachometer also replaces the regular caliber center speedometer in the SRT4. The SRT4’s front sport seats have huge side bolsters and are finished in leather and mesh material.

Dodge Caliber 2007 (2007), 1rd generation

The Dodge Caliber five-seat four-door hatchback replaces the compact Dodge Neon sedan. The Dodge Caliber shows all the signs of becoming a hit when it arrives in dealerships this month. It’s stylish, versatile and refined, and it offers a wide range of powertrains, with more to come. The Dodge Caliber is the debut model on a new platform co-developed with Mitsubishi. The lineup starts with manual side mirrors, black door handles, and a body-colored grille. The SXT has power side mirrors and a chrome grille. The R/T has chrome door handles and tailpipe.
