Jeep Patriot Generations
Jeep Patriot 2017 (2017), 11 generation
There are no significant changes.
Jeep Patriot 2016 (2016), 10 generation
The Limited trim level is gone, leaving Sport and Latitude models. Bluetooth with hands-free calling and SiriusXM satellite radio with a one-year free subscription are now standard. A new Sport SE Package due in late 2015 includes steering-wheel audio controls, heated front seats, 17-inch aluminum wheels and unique exterior trim. A backup camera is a new option.
Jeep Patriot 2015 (2015), 9 generation
A new High Altitude Package includes leather upholstery, a power sunroof, a power driver’s seat and 17-inch gray-finish wheels.
Jeep Patrio 2014 (2014), 8 generation
A six-speed automatic transmission is newly available. Additionally, side-impact airbags for the front seats are now standard.
Jeep Patriot 2013 (2013), 7 generation
Front-wheel-drive models equipped with the 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine and a five-speed manual transmission now get an EPA-estimated 30-mpg highway, up 1 mpg.
Jeep Patriot 2012 (2012), 6 generation
The Jeep Patriot’s continuously variable automatic transmission has been refined for 2012, offering smoother deceleration, better initial acceleration, reduced engine noise and a more responsive gas pedal, Jeep says.
Jeep Patriot 2011 (2011), 5 generation
Minor front and rear styling tweaks distinguish the 2011 Patriot from its predecessor, and maximum ground clearance increases to 9.5 inches, when properly equipped. The Patriot’s steering and suspension systems have also been upgraded for better ride and handling, according to Jeep.
Jeep Patriot 2010 (2010), 4 generation
Jeep got off to a late start in 2010 with the Patriot and didn’t have time to catch up. It’s a competent vehicle with above-average off-road potential, but it doesn’t match the best features of the class, including the bestsellers and recent design changes from Chevrolet and Hyundai. The Patriot accelerates quickly, although it is not a powerful vehicle. The variator, chosen because of its fuel-saving properties, has drawbacks. First, under hard acceleration, it allows the engine to pick up speed faster than a conventional automatic engine, and it maintains high engine speeds as the car accelerates, squeezing out all available power. This leads to more noise at unexpected moments, which people tend to interpret as “stress.” High RPM engines don’t strain; they just run. But it’s a characteristic that drivers haven’t gotten used to in years.
Jeep Patriot 2009 (2009), 3 generation
The 2009 compact SUV, which is actually a crossover built on the same platform as the Jeep Compass and Dodge Caliber, has been completely upgraded. It has now been significantly improved. Chrome accents are now around the dashboard deflectors, softer armrests on the refurbished door panel, and illuminated cupholders make the ride more bearable.
Jeep Patriot 2008 (2008), 2 generation
The Patriot offers a choice of two engines, two transmissions, and three transmissions. Standard features include the familiar 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine from the Caliber and Compass, a five-speed manual transmission, and front-wheel drive. The automatic option is represented by a continuously variable transmission. All-wheel drive is available with either transmission in two forms: Freedom Drive I and Freedom Drive II. The Patriot’s interior quality isn’t the best in class, but it’s acceptable for a vehicle of this price – given that the starting price is quoted for a seriously stripped-down sports model. Of note is the faux-metal trim, which is textured. Vinyl seats are standard, and cloth upholstery that resists stains, moisture and mildew is an optional extra for the Sport trim. Heated leather seats and driver’s lumbar adjustment are standard on the Limited, and Jeep kindly offers heaters for the front cloth seats, a rarity, though an expensive option package is a must. Power seats are not available.
Jeep Patriot 2007 (2007), 1 generation
The Patriot, Jeep’s newest SUV, is an off-road capable vehicle, and it’s exactly what the brand and its customers need for three reasons. One: It’s long overdue, because the super-powered Liberty and Wrangler weren’t built to challenge the lightweight, one-piece compact cars that began appearing 10 years ago. Second: Fuel economy estimates are impressively high, and that’s an important characteristic for a company that only makes SUVs. Third: it is quite attractive to buyers – in many ways.
