Kia Sorento Generations
Kia Sorento 2016 (2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020), 3 generation
For the third generation, the Sorento’s size and list of features continue to grow, as Kia refined its five- or eight-passenger CUV and moved it upscale. Available in five trims, the new Sorento launched with three engine options: a 290-horsepower 3.3-liter V6, a 185-horsepower 2.4-liter inline-four, or a new 240-horsepower turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder. The wheelbase is 3.1 inches longer, which helped increase passenger space and increase cargo volume behind the third row from 9.1 cu ft to 11 cu ft. For 2017, the Sorento gained Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility. An available eight-speed automatic transmission was introduced for 2019.
Kia Sorento 2011 (2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015), 2 generation
The 2011 Sorento was the first vehicle ever built at the new Kia Motors Manufacturing plant in Georgia, and the new generation represented an entirely new type of vehicle. Focused on all-around utility, it offers seating for up to 7 people and a more aerodynamic design. Longer and roomier than the outgoing model, the 2011 Sorento was equipped with either a 172-horsepower 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine or a 273-horsepower 3.5-liter V6. Both pair with a six-speed automatic transmission. For 2014, Kia released a major refresh for the Sorento with about 80 percent new parts, including an all-new platform. A 290-horsepower 3.3-liter V6 engine was introduced, as was a new top-of-the-line SX trim.
Kia Sorento 2003 (2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009), 1 generation
The Sorento introduced itself to the U.S. market at the 2002 Chicago Auto Show. Kia was still in the process of building its utility vehicle lineup, and the five-seater Sorento was set to play a major role. It had a 3.5-liter V6 that made about 190 horsepower and paired with a four-speed automatic transmission. The Sorento could operate in rear-wheel or four-wheel drive, and a rugged chassis made it a great option for family adventures and mild off-roading.
