Lincoln MKS Generations
Lincoln MKS 2016 (2016), 8 generation
There are no significant changes this year.
Lincoln MKS 2015 (2015), 7 generation
The MKS is Lincoln’s flagship sedan and is offered with front- or all-wheel drive. The MKS is powered by a choice of V-6 engines, including a twin-turbo V-6. Competitors include midrange luxury cars like the BMW 5 Series and Acura TL.
Lincoln MKS 2014 (2014), 6 generation
Following styling and drivetrain updates last year, the MKS adds a standard backup camera for 2014.
Lincoln MKS 2013 (2013), 5 generation
The 2013 MKS’ redesign isn’t just cosmetic. The base V-6 engine has more horsepower, and my top-of-the-line test car had a twin-turbo 3.5-liter EcoBoost V-6 with standard all-wheel drive. It was a fun to drive, though when I stomped on the accelerator, the engine lagged some. The MKS was very much at home on the highway, and I really just wanted to take it on a road trip. While this full-size sedan was big, it didn’t drive that way. I felt confident and comfortable changing lanes, braking and parking.
Lincoln MKS 2012 (2012), 4 generation
A blind spot warning system with cross-traffic alert is now included in the Navigation and Ultimate packages, and a remote-start system is available.
Lincoln MKS 2011 (2011), 3 generation
The optional navigation system adds HD radio, and the standard Sync system now integrates directions and traffic information with the voice-controlled nav system.
Lincoln MKS 2010 (2010), 2 generation
Lincoln is a brand that has made its mark on the automobile market. The all-new MKS is the closest thing the brand has to a high-end car that gives sedan buyers a reason to visit the Lincoln showroom. The MKS stands out in a number of areas, including its spacious cabin, sleek exterior, technological features and overall value. The MKS also has an auto-shift feature for the six-speed automatic transmission, which allows manual gear selection without the clutch. As with most cars with this feature, you move the gear selector up or down to change gears. The MKS shifter responds with a loud “pop” each time. No, that’s not engine noise, that’s coming from the shifter. In addition to its looks, impressive steering, and comfortable seats, the MKS also has an intuitive and feature-rich technology center. The Microsoft Sync entertainment system comes standard and controls audio and mobile apps, but the voice-activated feature controls much more with the navigation system.
Lincoln MKS 2009 (2009), 1 generation
The all-new MKS marks the rebirth of the Lincoln brand as the company transforms itself into a company capable of competing with such brands as Acura, Lexus and Cadillac. The MKS has a sleek profile accentuated by a large double-barrel grille that is becoming a trademark of Lincoln. The characteristic lines go to the hood and to the front pillars. The windshield is fairly steeply tilted. Stainless steel accents go from the roof to the trunk. The chassis platform used for the MKS was borrowed from the Ford Taurus and Mercury Sable, and is also rooted in the Volvo S80. The MKS is available with both front- and all-wheel drive.
