Nissan X-Terra Generations

Nissan X-Terra 2009 (2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015), 3st generation

The exterior of the Nissan Xterra featured a new V-shaped grille that resembled the V-shaped engine it had. Underneath it was a uniquely shaped front bumper with two black outer parts and an aluminum screen in the middle on the underside. The automaker added a set of roof lights and a trunk for an off-road package. At the rear, the Xterra had the same bulky bumper with integrated running boards. Inside, the new steering wheel got four more buttons on the right spoke for the audio system. Nissan considered installing Bluetooth connectivity throughout the lineup and offered the feature as standard. Like its non-facelifted version, the 2009 Xterra had a front-passenger seat-folding system that allowed the owner to move the surfboard from the trunk to the dashboard. On the center pillar, the automaker installed new climate control scales. Under the hood, the automaker kept the same engine, but it lost a few horses due to stricter emissions regulations.

Nissan X-Terra 2005 (2005, 2006, 2007, 2008), 2st generation

The second generation Xterra was based on Nissan’s proven F-Alpha platform, which used a ladder chassis with independent front suspension and rigid rear axle or independent suspension, depending on the vehicle. It was used for heavy vehicles such as the Nissan Armada or the Patrol Y62 model. The Xterra was shorter and lighter than those mentioned above, and this gave it some advantages. On the outside, the Xterra had a raised roof over the rear seats and trunk, somewhat reminiscent of the second generation Nissan Terrano. The front of the car had an intricate design formed by straight and sloping lines crossing the grille and bumpers. The upper versions had bumpers in body color. As for drivetrain, the Xterra was available in only one configuration with the newly developed 4.0-liter variable valve timing V6 engine in combination with a standard 6-speed manual transmission or the option for a 5-speed automatic transmission. It was offered with a choice of partial four-wheel drive or two-wheel drive.

Nissan X-Terra 2002 (2002, 2003, 2004, 2005), 1st generation

Nissan relied on its off-road experience to create the Xterra. It was built on the same chassis as the Frontier pickup and was a relative of the European Pathfinder. It was aimed at the Generation X, hence the X in its name, and tried to convince its customers that it could handle tougher terrain than its competitors. But belonging to the truck had a similar steering system cost and was heavier than other SUVs in the compact segment. The updated Xterra got a new front fascia with a V-shaped grille, like other Nissan vehicles. However, its round headlights in square groups looked odd for a car made in 2001. The widened wheel arches on both axles made room for big 265 / 65R 17 tires for the SE version and 265 / 70R 16 for the rest of the model. A new 48mm (1.9-inch) bulge on the hood made room for a supercharger for the most powerful version. The biggest changes came under the hood, where the automaker offered a choice of three engines ranging from 143 to 210 hp. The last was a supercharged V-6 powerplant and was available with a five-speed manual transmission. In addition, depending on the options, Nissan installed either an open or limited differential for the rear axle.
