Approvals Mercedes-Benz Motor Oil

MB 226.5

This specification is required for Mercedes vehicles with gasoline engines supplied by the Renault-Nissan Alliance. Specification requirements are similat to MB 229.5.

MB 226.51

This specification is based on RN0720 and is recommended for Mercedes vehicles with DPF fitted diesel engines supplied by Renault. Oils meeting this specification have very good thermal stability and after-treatment compatibility.

MB 229.1

For petrol and diesel engines. Minimum quality required ACEA A2/B2 with additional limits on the engine.

MB 229.3

For petrol and diesel engines. Minimum quality required ACEA A3 / B3 / B4 and MB 229.1. It can only certify 0/ 5 W-x oils.

MB 229.31

Multigrade, low SAPS engine oil, advised for both diesel and petrol engines of Mercedes-Benz, Smart, and Chrysler. Only low viscosity engine oils which can realize a 1.0% saving on used fuel in the M111 Fuel economy test (CEC L-54-T-96) can get this approval. In this test, the fuel savings are compared to the performance of the Reference oil RL 191 (SAE 15W-40).

MB 229.5

MB sheet for energy conserving oils for a certain car and van engines. Approved oils must meet ACEA A3, B3, and B4 specifications and some additional demands by Daimler Chrysler AG. Oil must be on the approval list.

MB 229.51

Low SAPS Long Life engine oil for diesel engines with particle filter meeting emission EU-4 – standards.

MB 229.52

Oils meeting these specifications must have lower ash content, at least 1% better fuel economy compared to the requirements of MB 229.31 and MB 229.51, and better oxidation stability for biofuel compatibility. It Can also be used where an MB 229.31 or an MB 229.51 oil is required. Just like MB 229.5 and MB 229.51, this spec requires a long-life oil.

Mercedes-Benz S-Class Generations

Mercedes-Benz S-Class (W223) / (V223) 2020 (2020, 2021), 21 generation

The 2020 model was focused not so much on looks as on comfort and safety. Nevertheless, Mercedes-Benz could not allow the facelifted model without external changes. The new headlights and front bumpers were a slight improvement over the non-facelifted version. More attention is drawn to the interior. Virtual reality has come on board in the HUD, which virtually draws lines on the pavement to follow satellite navigation directions. The MBUX (Mercedes-Benz User Experience) infotainment unit had up to five screens with OLED technology. Voice commands did not require “Hello, Mercedes” to activate all functions. The main improvement was the rear axle control, which reduced the turning circle by 6.2 feet (1.88 m) in diameter. The new 48-volt architecture allowed the car to be equipped with soft-hybrid technology for most engines, including a V8 with an integrated starter generator. The base version had a turbocharged, direct-injection inline six-cylinder engine that produced 362 hp, sent to the rear of all four wheels through a nine-speed automatic transmission (dual-clutch).

Mercedes-Benz S-Class 2017 (2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021), 20 generation

The S-Class received a mid-lifecycle update in 2017. The car has been constantly improving, and most of the time it has set the pace with advanced safety and luxury features. The 2017 model was no exception, but it shared only small details on the outside to say it was an updated model. On the outside, the modified bumper, grille, and headlights were the main details that could tell the difference. The headlights had three LED lines of daytime running lights. The C-Class had two lines and the E-Class had two. The multi-beam LED headlights were equipped with a long-range daytime running light that could illuminate the road up to 650 meters (2132 feet). Leather, natural wood and high-tech equipment were used in the interior design, but they all came together to form a harmonious interior. The spacious front seats are adjustable in any way possible, like a car seat. The interior of the new S-Class featured two new high-resolution displays, each with a screen diagonal of 12.3 inches. Visually, the two displays under one common glass cover merged into a wide-screen cockpit that contained a large display with virtual instruments in the driver’s direct field of view, as well as a center display above the center console. As for the suspension, the 2017 S-Class received a new-generation Magic Body Control air suspension, enhanced with a CURVE function that kept the car level when cornering. A new engine lineup with better fuel efficiency was introduced for the car, including a plug-in hybrid from 2018.

Mercedes-Benz S-Class (W222) 2013 (2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017), 19 generation

The 2014 Mercedes-Benz S-Class further consolidates the automaker’s flagship position in matter of comfort, drive engineering and state-of-the-art safety technology. Apart from a bolder design, with sharper edges and side lines, the new S-Class changed it dimensions a bit. Keeping the 3,035 mm (120.3 inches) wheelbase from the last model, the luxurious sedan got 20 mm (0.8 inches) longer, 28 mm (1.1 inches) wider and 25 mm (1 inch) lower, now measuring 5,116 mm long (201.4 inches), 1,899 mm wide (78.8 inches) and 1,496 mm tall (58.9 inches). With the car’s size being increased, it is normal that more passenger space will be available, enhancing occupants’ comfort. And while that can apply to the cabin, the luggage space has dropped a little from 558 L (19,7 cu.ft) to 530 L (18.7 cu.ft). Despite the limousine’s new proportions, its efficiency got better, the S350 Bluetec model averaging the European cycle with 5.7 l/100 km (41 mpg), which is 0.6-liters less than the previous version. The S400 Hybrid gets 6.55 l/100 km (36 mpg) and the S500 drops its fuel consumption from 9.5 l/100 km (25 mpg) to 8.85 l/100 km (26.5 mpg).

The 2003 S-Class model suffered subtle design changes. The front bumper’s lower air intake was restyled, making the car look wider. The grille was taller. The headlights were covered with clear glass and the whole lamp featured a rounder look. The door mirrors and the taillights were refreshed as well. Inside, there were over 40 elements redesigned in the 2003 S-Class. The multi-contour seats featured air-chambers that inflated and deflated according to the road conditions to offer better support for its occupants. For the infotainment system, the car was fitted as standard with the 6.5” COMAND unit. In the top of the range version S600, the unit was connected to the navigation system.

Mercedes-Benz S-Class (W221) 2005 (2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009), 17 generation

The 2005 Mercedes-Benz S-Class was ready in two wheelbases and with plenty of options. The S-Class was the top vehicle from the German car-maker. It was the benchmark for comfortable cars all over the world. It was also on the front of the automotive technologies for safety and luxury, for more than five decades. The suspension featured the standard AIRMATIC air-suspension system that could be programmed for comfort or sport settings at the touch of a button. Under the hood, there was a choice of V6 or V8 engines from the start, with the 3.5-liter as entry-level. Since in Europe there was a high demand for diesel units, a 3.0-liter was offered for the S320 CDI. Top of the range, the S600 V12 engine was available since 2006. For the transmission, the S-Class installed the 7G-Tronic as standard for the V6 and the V8 engines.
