Toyota Corolla Generations

Toyota Corolla 2020 (2020, 2021), 12st generation

The Toyota Corolla was completely redesigned for 2020 with updated styling, including a large, sporty grille and a more aggressive rear end. A hybrid powertrain that borrows technology from the Prius also debuted.

Toyota Corolla 2013 (2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019), 11st generation

The eleventh-generation Corolla’s styling was massively refreshed with a new front and rear end, distinguishing if from the international versions. It was offered in four trims: L, LE, LE Eco and S. It still had the same 1.8-liter engine, but in two different variations: one that delivers 132 horsepower and another with 140 horsepower. It was available with a four-speed automatic transmission, a six-speed manual or a new continuously variable transmission. Corolla received a facelift for the 2017 model year and a new 7-inch touchscreen. New SE and XSE trims were also introduced. A hatchback body style debuted for the 2019 model year.

Toyota Corolla 2009 (2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013), 10st generation

The tenth-generation Corolla debuted with a more powerful 1.8-liter engine that now delivered 132 horsepower. Five trims were offered: Standard, S, LE, XLE and XRS. The XRS trim had a 2.4-liter engine rated at 158 horsepower. A five-speed manual was standard and a five-speed automatic was an optional upgrade on the XRS. In 2011, Toyota begins production of the Corolla at its plant in Blue Springs, Miss. The XLE and XRS trims are dropped for the 2012 model year.

Toyota Corolla 2001 (2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008), 9st generation

Again there was a lapse between introduction of the new generation Corolla and its delivery. The ninth generation came to North America for the 2003 model year and it was based on a larger Corolla Altis (sold in Southeast Asia) equipped with the 1.8-liter engine, but with 130 horsepower. The three trims remained the same. It was paired with either a four-speed automatic or five-speed manual transmission.

The right choice of engine oil for the Toyota Corolla

The Toyota Corolla is one of the most reliable cars on the market! We recommend changing the engine oil every 5,000 miles in your Toyota Corolla. You take care of your car, right?

How do you choose your oil? That will come down to a number of factors.

There are two things to consider when choosing the best oil for your Toyota Corolla: mileage and climate. There are many other things to consider: driving style, driving duration, climate, and other factors.

High mileage Toyota Corolla engine oil

How many miles your car has been driven is also an important factor. “High mileage” is considered 75,000 miles or more, which is not a lot for a Honda owner! High mileage vehicle additives are designed to restore the shape and elasticity of engine seals, giving new life to those that have failed to harden. High mileage Toyota Corolla oils tend to have a higher viscosity range to account for the higher tolerances that may exist in older vehicles that are subject to more wear and tear.

How do I change the oil in a Toyota Corolla?

Changing the oil in a Toyota Corolla is done just like any other car. Changing the oil takes about 20-30 minutes. You will need a 17 mm head, a funnel, an oil filter, and new engine oil, as well as a drain pan for the used oil.

What viscosity is right for me for the Toyota Corolla?

It’s very simple: 0w-20, 5w-20, API SN, or ILSAC GF-5 oil is appropriate for Toyota Corolla cars. No other approvals are required for Toyota Corolla vehicles.

Why should I use synthetic oil for Toyota Corolla?

  • Synthetic oil allows your vehicle to reduce fuel consumption. Synthetic oil is made with a lower viscosity than conventional oils, the oil flows more freely and allows the engine to not run as hard.
  • Synthetic oil lasts longer than regular oil, so you can shorten your oil change interval.
  • Synthetic oil extends the life of your engine.
